Recreational Activities

So many activities, so little time. Let us help you make the most of your time in our backyard!

Guided Waterfall Hikes

There are hundreds of waterfalls in the mountains of North Carolina. But on one of our more scenic hikes in the region, participants can see three magnificent and significant waterfalls all on one single trail that weaves through the forest, down a mountain and along a roaring stream. Our professional guides lead this easy-to-moderate downhill hike through a spectacular state forest while introducing the group to the abundant flora and fauna native to our Southern Appalachian Mountains. For groups wanting to add a little friendly competition to their activity, we can customize a scavenger hunt for specific species of plants, animals and other forest treasures.

Zipline Tours & Excursions

For the thrill seeker to the casual recreationalist, we offer several different zipping experiences never to be forgotten. One option is an ecotour where guests zip on several lines high above the ground, as fast as 65 miles per hour, as long as 3600 feet and as high as 350 feet off the ground. In this fully guided mountain adventure, guests will also rappel, hike and enjoy amazing long range views in and above the mountain canopy. For those who choose to stay a little closer to the ground we also offer an urban treetop option overlooking beautiful Downtown Asheville. Whichever adventure your group chooses your guests are sure to be talking about this activity for years to come.

Fly Fishing Excursions

Western North Carolina offers an abundance of freestone rivers and streams with healthy populations of rainbow, brook and brown trout. We arrange professionally guided wading trips and float trips out of self-bailing rafts equipped with high-back fighting seats. Whatever your skill level, our goal is to make sure that our guests enjoy their fishing excursion and perhaps learn a few new skills. Beginners will be given professional fly casting guidance, but our guides will work extra hard to give veterans a memorable experience. We will provide all fishing equipment (including rods, waders, boots, flies, tippets and leaders), and all necessary fishing licenses or permits.

Whitewater River Rafting Trips

Take a half-day or full-day trip down one of several exciting local rivers offering Class I through V rapids. No other sport combines teamwork, fun and outdoor adventure like a trip down the French Broad, Nantahala, Nolichucky or Pigeon Rivers. We offer trips for beginners, including children as young as 8, through advanced paddlers, and all our rafts will have an experienced guide negotiating the rapids. We also provide all equipment you will need and we will give a proper safety briefing before each river trip. Your group can enjoy a deli style lunch on a riverside beach or we can arrange a grilled steak dinner with all the trimmings at the end of the day back at the outpost.

Scenic Horseback Riding

Hop aboard a magnificent and docile horse to ride along our scenic mountaintop trails skirting the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. On this high mountain adventure guests can take in the native flora and fauna from atop their own horse, and half way through the ride we give the horses a rest and let guests explore the Little Pine Garnet Mine. You can keep any of the gemstone quality garnets you find in the aboveground mine. This tour  is enjoyable for both the experienced and beginner rider of any age. Scenic panoramic views, clean mountain air and pristine forests make this fully guided tour the perfect remedy for long days spent in front of your office computer screen.

Just a short drive south of Asheville you will find the breathtaking Chimney Rock State Park. Nestled between Lake Lure and Bat Cave, this 1000-acre park features the 535 million year old “Chimney Rock,” which has become one of the most photographed sites in the United States. Ascend 26 stories, or 258 feet, in about 35 seconds in the rock enclosed elevator to the top of the mountain for 75-mile panoramic views. Hiking trails for every ability, rock climbing and one of the tallest waterfalls in the country are just some of what this historic park has to offer.
